FAQ
Questions
Do I need the internet?
Only once: to download the translation (1.1 GB, best over Wi-Fi). After that Tarjumo works in the prayer hall without signal.
Do I need an account?
Not for the live khutbah. You only need one for Tarjumo Pro and mosque mode; then you sign in with a code by email, no password.
Which languages?
The khutbah in Arabic, translated into English, German, Turkish, French, Urdu, Indonesian, Bengali, Persian, Spanish, Russian or Malay. The meaning of Qur’an verses is available in English, German, Turkish, French, Spanish, Indonesian, Malay, Urdu and Persian.
Is the imam recorded?
No. The audio is processed on the phone and never uploaded. Only if you switch it on in Settings does Tarjumo keep recordings on your iPhone. Ask the imam first.
How accurate is it?
In ordinary rooms Tarjumo gets most words right. In very large, echoing mosques your seat matters most: sit within about 2 metres of a loudspeaker, with the bottom of the phone towards it. A clip-on microphone placed at a loudspeaker works best. Translations can be wrong; for rulings, ask a scholar.
When does the app come out?
The iPhone beta starts soon. Write to hello@tarjumo.com and we will let you know.
